Dear all:

I have visited María Clara Bouvier’s course (See comment below about their response to the previous post), Jóvenes 5B, and they told me that they do not like Lady Gaga. Their favourite singers and groups are: Maroon 5, Oasis, Eminem, among others. What about you? Leave your responses in "comments" , please.

Surfing the net, I came across this website Karoke Party and loved it. Isn´t it cool for practising your English pronounciation ?

How does it work?You only need a microphone. You choose the song you want to sing, wait till it is buffered and the lyrics appear to be sung at the pace of the music.

You get a mark after singing. I am afraid my mark on intonation - not pronounciation- was not very good when I tried it :( Look at the results in the image below:

It was funny jaja and interesting, because we didn't know anything about the difference between british english and american english. Well, yes the difference in the pronunciation of course, and between holiday which is British and vacation which is American.

Now we know that we have to choose one of them because we can't mix them. We know that it's difficult because the films and the songs, most of them, are in american english and if we choose british it's complicated.

Some teachers complain about the bad influence of chat language. They say chat language is a bad influence because teens use abbreviations, smileys or acronyms instead of writing full words :(

Using chat language in text messages and chat sessions is OK, but it is not when you are writing for school, university or a formal e-mail.

Let's check how familiar you are with English chat language.

Introduction

You are a member of an environmental group similar to Greenpeace in La Plata. Your team has been assigned the project of creating two posters to make teenagers aware of the environmental problems in the city and how to be more concerned about the situation.

Task

Your posters will be made in PAINT programe and consist of text and an image/images encouraging teenagers to keep the city clean, save water and recyling and reducing rubbish. Your team will need to decide about the topic, type of font and format of the poster, text and illustrating images. Pay attention to the Evaluation item that appears at the bottonm of this post !

I like music and singing - who does not? I listen to music as often as I can: when I go walking, do some housework or work. I sometimes find it difficult to concentrate on work when I listen to music because if I like the song, I stop working and start singing!!!

Have you ever heard about the theory of multiple intelligences? It was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. It suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, based on I.Q. testing ( I.Q. stands for intelligence quotient), is far too limited.

Instead, Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. These intelligences are:logical-mathematical intelligence, verbal intelligence, musical intellgence, visual intellgence, body intellgence and intepersonal intellgence.

Revise Unit 11, "English in Mind". If you are not using "English in Mind", you can read this short article to know about the topic.

Second Chat Session

Today we have had another Chat session. I chatted to Tatiana. She is in second year at school and she has 14 subjects. She has to pass a lot of exams this year and is very difficult for her. Tatiana has plans for the summer: she’s going to go to Cordoba . She loves that place so she goes with her family every year.

Tatiana thinks that the Chat sessions were very lovely and that she really enjoyed them. She showed me her blog and I liked it so much. She told me that she chose colour green because that is her favourite colour. In her blog she wrote about our Chat lessons. Written by Camila

I chatted to Juan but he preferred his nick name Stefa, he’s 16 years old. He’s planning to spend his holidays in Cariló on an apartment with his parents, his nephew, his sister and a cat. He doesn’t know when they’ll be there yet because he has to give some tests. Anyway he is a good student, he only has a 6 in marketing but the teacher is very demanding.He likes this experience because it’s a new way to learn and nowadays we have internet everywhere so there’s no escape from it and it’s very useful. She told me that she is a good student and she like studding and she prefer history and langue. She is going two weeks. She like doing this because she meets new people.
And I’ve chatted with Brujita; she is going to go to the south for 20 days she goes there because the parents went there many times and those wants to show her the beauty of the south. Today we had another Chat sesion with our friends from Capital. I chatted to Mayra and Irene. Mayra is 15 years old and she loves Boca Juniors. On these holidays she’s planning to go to the beach or Salta. At school she’s doing very well and she thinks that this experience is very funny and interesting.
Irene is 15 years old and she loves Ferro. At school she has a lot of good marks. About this experience (chatting), she thinks that it is very funny and interesting, too because if somebody doesn´t understand something, you can say it in Spanish. Written by Facundo.

Today, I chatted to Narela. She currently lives in Buenos Aires, Capital (she has lived everywhere. She is moving houses all the time). She is doing well at school. She said she was not excellent at that, but she had no problems. Her favourite subjects are mathematics and business management; she will probably study something related to that. She is planning to go to Entre Ríos, because she has some friends there, and her aunt and uncle live in Paraná. She will stay there for the whole month of January. Last Tuesday, September 22nd we had a wonderful experience: a chat session with students of English living. It was our (teachers' and students') experience, so we were anxious.

I was particularly worried about the hardware and the software because the event depended on them! Luckily, we managed to achieve our aim in spite of conection or some technical problems.

The Students were supposed to do certain tasks: Invite students to their MSN contact list and accept invitations, introduce themselves politely and find out some information about their chat partners. The results are below:

Tatiana is 15 years old, she’s from Capital (Almagro – Balvanera). She likes listening to music, like cuarteto and reggaeton. Her hobbies are watching TV, for example. Today I Chat whith a student from Buenos Aires , her name was Irene , her nick name is Brujita, she is 15 years old and loves music . She hears Punk /Rock music , and she also likes folklore , she is in the same level of English as I am ( fifth year). For spring day , she went to a friend’s house and stayed over , she didn´t sleep at all and she told me that she was really tired.

Today we have an experience with some students from another institute in Buenos Aires. We chated and meet each other.I chated with Tatiana . She is 15 years old and she goes to Santa Rosa School. She’s from Capital Federal. She likes playing handball but she doesn’t have time to do it, so she does some training at school. She likes many styles of music like cumbia, reggaeton and cuarteto. Today we Chat with same guys from bs as. I met Marchu she is 14 years old but in October she will be 15. We spoke about the spring day and she told me that she did not anything because she had homework, and she, with her friends decide to go at the cinema on Saturday. Marchu loves internacional music like Britney Spears. She is such a good student at English, she has an 8 in the last test! by Camila.
